Have You Decided To Be Alone?

In everyone’s life, there comes a time when we realize that no one is coming to save us. Throughout childhood, we necessarily depend on others for nearly everything; our physical needs, comfort, even perhaps our sense of self, and self-esteem.

But eventually as we mature and become more aware of how the world works, we come to understand that there’s no knight in shining armor…no teacher who can give us the ultimate “secret” to living a happy life…no book or video to do the work for us. We might wake up one morning and think we’ve had an epiphany that we’re just a tiny speck floating in the infinite void of the Universe. This is a horrible feeling for most of us. We feel untethered, helpless, and completely alone. And in some respects, that’s correct. No one but you can truly know what’s in your heart and mind (and sometimes even we don’t know, if we’re not being honest). No one else can tell you exactly what will make you happy, what will make you feel fulfilled. They simply can’t.

So, we often give up. We feel that our own native resources aren’t up to the task – and since no one else can do it for us, we’re screwed. We go through life accepting whatever comes…whatever happens to us, and to a great extent we’re just trying to do whatever helps to take the pain away and waiting for the whole thing to be over.

All that’s true IF we only pay attention to the physical world. We’re perfectly free to maintain that empty feeling for an entire lifetime if we choose. But, if it were natural and true, why would it feel so bad? The only way one could accept this condition would be to believe that our natural state is to suffer. But a quick look around tells us that is not likely. We don’t see trees or animals or rocks suffering of their own accord. Yes, animals can be mistreated and made to suffer…but do they blindly accept it as being their natural state? Nope – they do everything in their power to avoid it.

If we decide to look inward through spiritual pursuits, we may find that there’s a mystery that may provide an answer to the loneliness.

Our beliefs can provide insight into that mystery. If we can grasp, even on a theoretical basis, the concept that says that we are all One consciousness, it follows that each of us, even as an individual manifestation of that consciousness, are Many. So, even though on the physical plane of existence we are indeed alone, in the broader sense we are absolutely not alone at all. It’s our awareness and degree of consciousness, our vibrational alignment with the fact of Oneness, that determines how alone we think we are. There’s a reason for the veil that’s between us and the rest of Creation; if it were not in place, we wouldn’t be motivated to learn and experience. Part of that learning and experiencing involves piercing the veil and discovering our own Infinity and immortality.

In my work, I often access the Akashic record for my clients and ask how many lifetimes their souls have spent incarnating on Earth. Usually the number is at least 200…and that’s just the ones they spent on this planet. The total number of lifetimes may be in the thousands, and each time they’ve been a different person, living in different circumstances, learning different things. So in that regard, just within one’s own existence one has hundreds (if not thousands) of vastly varying experiences to draw upon. The range and breadth of possible direct knowledge available is mind-boggling, to say the least. And through various techniques like past-life regression and meditation, we can access that knowledge. In my work, I look for current problems affecting clients that originate in past lives and so we only deal with perhaps less-than-ideal experiences. But those (even though they can have a huge effect), are in the minority. Many other of our incarnations have brought us contentment, peace, fulfillment and wisdom…and that is all available to us if we seek it.

Not only do we have all of our other selves to look to, we also have hosts of other resources in the non-physical planes. Our higher Self (soul) has access to our own past lives, and also to indirect experiences via our spirit guides, angels, and ascended Masters. These are all there waiting to help – all we need to do is to ask. Will they appear before us and tell us exactly what to do? Of course not. Again, there is no learning for the individual entity (us) when we’re spoon-fed. But will they help guide us on our path, give us a heads-up or a nudge in the right direction? Absolutely…but we do need to put in the effort to be mindful; to stop, look, and listen. The signals coming from our spiritual community are strong, but the noise in our heads can easily overpower those signals. If you’re constantly fretting, fearful and anxious, there’s no way you’re going to hear the real answers.

So, the choice is yours. Will you live as a virtual hermit, alone in your shell and helpless before the apparent chaos of the physical world? Or will you look within you and without you to gain the wisdom and direction that you’ve put in eons earning the right to access? You get to decide.

  1. I believe that we are the one’s that we have been searching for all along. I have learned this lesson in my life. Once we remember this then we will not have to become dependent on relationships but interdependence is fine with me.
