Money, Courage, and Taking Risks

One of my main ways of communicating is through my Facebook page (you’re invited to join me through the link over there on the right).  I post whatever occurs to me, usually several times a week.  The thoughts I share  usually are found helpful by at least a few people.

It’s easy to tell which topics are the hot buttons…a comment I post will get a lot of responses. But the “hottest” buttons I push are the ones that get zero responses.

Sex, God, spirituality, reincarnation, life and death…these all are considered safe and people will discuss them. But mention money and people are shocked. What does that mean? It means that money is the most taboo and  emotional topic of all. Yeah, sex is powerful…but honestly, it does become less important as you age. But not money. When you’re 80 you can get by without getting laid, but you still need money.

Money is nothing but a concept – it represents how successful we are in physical life. It gives us freedom to enjoy life…and most importantly, to create. In fact the very act of allowing money to flow to us requires an act of creation.

The energy of money/abundance, like everything else, flows from the Creator, but it flows through man. Some think that money is evil. But money is just an abstract concept, neither “good” nor “bad”. What’s done with it can be negative, but that’s the further act of creation via free will that man places on it.

You can have extremely strong blocks around money. Maybe your father abandoned the family when you were a child and the family had to struggle – so money represents pain, loss, and abandonment to you.

Or perhaps there’s a past-life issue…like maybe you were quite rich in a previous life and it lead to an isolated existence. Or maybe you were even killed for your money. No wonder you might now subconsciously not want to manifest abundance, if it brought you bad things.

Your sense of self-worth can be tied to money – not having it leaves you feeling like a failure. But, ironically, it’s feeling like a failure that keeps money away. If you figure you’ll never have a lot of it…you won’t.

It’s a process. I used to think that just being a good guy, being “spiritual”, making affirmations… would allow money to flow to me. But we’re here to live a life, and when we came here we agreed to abide by certain rules. One of the rules is that we need to contribute something in order to get something. There needs to be a physical vehicle by which money can come to us. It doesn’t matter what it is: if we focus on it, never give up, keep a positive attitude and TAKE EVER-INCREASINGLY LARGER ACTIONS toward it, it will come. It has to.

I can tell you that in my case, NOTHING has come to me until I took another major step despite my fear. Going from believing nothing to having a firm belief system was one. Deciding to try and help people in ways I’d never even considered was another. Spending thousands of dollars to learn how to use my intuitive gift and how to deliver that to clients was a big one.  Recently, spending money on getting help with my business was a huge one. I could have sat back, kept doing the same things, watched money dribble in (just enough to keep me from stopping entirely) and kept allowing my savings to slowly drain away until I would have finally gone to Walmart for a job application. But I decided that I was not going to allow that to happen, because I’m better than that. I took what was (to me) a huge chunk out of my savings and got help. It was the biggest leap yet and on the surface it was risking a lot, not just for me but for the people who still depend on me.

But it worked – it had to, because I grew. I took another leap. Even more important than the action was the decision.  A decision is nothing more than a strong intention that is followed up on.  It’s not a desire or a wish;  it’s a projection of your will onto reality.  You are Creator, and it’s your WILL that does the creating.

Some of the most successful spiritual teachers out there today are advertising that they will teach you how to manifest money – because like I said above, money is the strongest emotionally-charged topic there is, and it applies to all people everywhere regardless of age, gender or race.  So frankly, what I’ve chosen as my life’s work is a hard row to hoe. It’s hard for people to see how spending money on releasing negativity and getting their heads straight will help them.  But tell them that you can help them to get more money, and suddenly they’re interested.

I’ve taken “abundance” courses.  They didn’t work for me.  The fact is that you can slap a happy-face sticker on your life all you want, make affirmations, tell yourself that you don’t need money and that you can do it yourself…but until you get rid of the subconscious and energetic crap and the FEAR, nothing’s going to happen because you’re still afraid of a boogey-man that doesn’t exist.  And that fear will screw you up every time.  It will keep you from doing anything really different.  It will keep you close to your dog dish, growling and making sure that nobody takes away what you do have – while in the meantime, there’s a whole big bag of Purina in the next room.  But you’ll never find it because you’re stuck defending what little you have.

That is why I love my clients.  They left the dog dish and went to explore the other rooms.  They found some balls and joined me in this free-fall life and began to learn to fly.  They took a risk, and the best ones learned to keep taking them.  They learned that there is no bottom to hit except for the one they conjure up for themselves.

And guess what: the ones who learn to take the risks are the ones who reap the rewards.  By and by, they make more money, and they make it doing what they were “meant” to do.

I don’t teach abundance. I teach bravery. It’s served me well when I’ve been able to use it, and it can work the same way for anyone.
